More often found either behind the camera or in front of it on the big screen, Justin Theroux has also carved out a healthy TV guest star career. He’s set to return to a US channel he’s appeared on regularly – HBO – for Damon Lindelof’s pilot The Leftovers.

Based on Tom Perrotta’s book, The Leftovers is set in a world where the Rapture has happened, only it didn’t go down quite as prophesised. Many people were taken, and now those left behind must deal with a world that has been forever changed.

Theroux (who trivia fans will note is Louis Theroux’s cousin) is playing Kevin Garvey, the town’s chief of police (in the TV version). He’s the dad of two kids trying to maintain normalcy where it’s quickly ebbing away.

Lindelof, who co-wrote Star Trek Into Darkness and is at work on Tomorrowland with Brad Bird, has Friday Night Lights’ Peter Berg directing the initial episode, with hopes that the channel will pick up the series. Theroux, meanwhile, was last seen in Your Highness.
