As we told you this past weekend, the third Star Trek film began production last week in Vancouver. And now we have the closest thing to official confirmation of the news originally shared by Simon Pegg that the new movie is indeed called **Star Trek Beyond.

It’s all thanks to a tweet from Justin Lin, who is joining the franchise from a successful run on the Fast & Furious films. He stuffed the title into a hashtag that has us wondering whether it’ll be simply known as Star Trek Beyond (as with Star Trek Into Darkness), or if a colon will creep in there somewhere.

Nothing has been announced about the plot for this new outing for the USS Enterprise and her crew, other than some vague talk of exploration and finally getting to see Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk and co. head out into deep space to truly explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilisations, to boldly... Well, you know the rest.

Pine is back alongside Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Pegg (who co-wrote the film with Doug Jung) as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Chekov. Sofia Boutella is aboard in some capacity and Idris Elba is strongly rumoured to be playing the villain, though we’ll likely have to wait until, a) Paramount confirms his casting or b) pictures of him leak from the set.

Star Trek Beyond will warp into UK cinemas on July 8 next year.
