Following the surprising announcement last week that Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League will now actually see the light of day (on new streaming service HBO Max), the director has now shared an image of big villain Darkseid, who didn't make the final cut in the theatrical version.

Darkseid, the tyrannical ruler of the planet Apokolips, is a seriously powerful creature whose ultimate goal is to conquer the universe and eliminate all free will and sentient beings. You know, that old story. While Snyder hinted at his taking an interest in the Earth at the end of Batman V Superman, that never quite came to fruition once Joss Whedon took over Justice League during re-scripting and additional footage.

Now, with Snyder's vision headed our way next year, the director is spending lots of money (original reports had it pegged around $20-$30 million, but more recent chatter has been about heftier costs), to work on new VFX, score and other elements, with the cast recording some additional dialogue (though not returning to actually shoot scenes). Argo actor Ray Porter has been let off the NDA leash to tweet that he's playing Darkseid in the new film, though whether that's through performance capture or more traditional costuming remains to be seen.
