After getting off to a roaring start elsewhere in the world, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stomped into the Stateside box office charts with a hefty $150 million according to studio estimates.
While that was a T-Rex-sized step down from 2015's Jurassic World and its $208 million kick-off, it's far from a bad launch for the sequel in America, with its global total so far now standing at more than $711 million. And you've got to factor in that the new World was competing with Incredibles 2's second weekend for a chunk of similar audience, so it's a decent opening. The next challenge will be staying power, especially in the face of incoming competition including Ant-Man And The Wasp, which lands in two weeks' time.
The aforementioned Incredibles 2 took home $80.9 million in second, representing a 55% drop, while Ocean's Eight dropped to third on $11.6 million. Fourth was Tag, one of the recent slight disappointments on the summer comedy performance front, earning $8.2 million. Rounding out the top five was Deadpool 2, which added $5.2 and pushed that film's domestic haul past the $300 million mark (which Incredibles 2 blew past this week also).
Solo: A Star Wars Story still struggled, dropping to sixth with $4 million, while chilling tale Hereditary earned $3.8 million in seventh. Superfly dipped to eighth on $3.3 million, ahead of Avengers: Infinity War with $2.4 million. And finally, bringing some sunshine to the box office, Mr. Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor? added screens and jumped from 15th to 10th with $1.8 million.
