There might have been new movies arriving at the Stateside box office, but nothing could challenge the dominance of those Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom dinosaurs. The sequel stayed in the top spot, earning $60 million, according to studio estimates.
Though that represents a nearly 60% drop in takings, it was still enough to push the new movie across the $260 million point domestically, with more than $932 million in the bank from a worldwide perspective – membership of the billion-dollar club isn't far off.
Incredibles 2 also held on, staying in second place and adding $45.5 million, crossing $400 million in the US, and heading past $640 million globally. Another sequel, Sicario: Day Of The Soldado, opened strong in third, earning $19 million. That was just ahead of the week's second new entry, basketball comedy Uncle Drew, which made $15.5 million.
Ocean's 8 fell to fifth with $8 million, while Tag dropped to sixth on $5.6 million. Deadpool 2 slipped a couple of places to seventh, making $3.4 million, and another new entry, Sanju, a biopic from India, surpassed expectations landing in the top 10 at eighth on $2.5 million.
Ninth was Solo: A Star Wars Story, adding $2.293 million, and Mr Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor boosted its screen count and stayed in 10th place, taking home $2.90 million.
