25 years on from its original release, the astonishing effects in Jurassic Park have held up remarkably – all in the incredible filmmaking of Steven Spielberg and co. That makes things challenging for the Jurassic World team, living up to the legacy of a film that pioneered game-changing techniques. In a new featurette from the home release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, director JA Bayona sits down with writer-producer Colin Trevorrow, and cast members Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jeff Goldblum to talk about the perfect mix of practical and CGI effects.

“I think that when you do one of those scenes, the secret is to combine techniques,” Bayona explains. “That’s what works so well from the very first Jurassic Park, that you’re using all the time animatronics or guys in suits, and combined with the CGI, that’s very effective.”
