Jurassic World: Battle At Big Rock

The world at large was taken by dino-surprise last week when Jurassic Worlddirector Colin Trevorrow announced that he had somehow snuck across from his current England home to Ireland last winter to shoot a short film set in the movie universe which, despite its brief running time and tight budget, boasts the sort of giant reptile action we've come to expect from the Jurassic offerings. And those who attended the live Empire Podcast recording this weekend were treated to a world-exclusive screening of the short. Now, it has arrived online for everyone to enjoy.

Set one year after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom unleashed Isla Nublar's residents fully on the wider world, it sees a society that has largely had to embrace dinosaurs once again stomping and chomping around the place. A family is camping at Big Rock National Park, located around 20 miles away from Lockwood manor where the original release occurred. What should be a bonding trip is rather rudely interrupted by a family of Nasutoceratops who come foraging through the camp site where their RV is parked.

Yet that's the least of the humans' worries, as a hungry Allosaurus shows up, attacking the other dinosaurs and then the family vehicle...

Trevorrow shot this in five days with a small cast and crew, and amazingly managed to keep it a secret until now. It's aimed at bridging the story between Fallen Kingdom and the third World movie, which Trevorrow is busy co-writing (with Emily Carmichael) to direct, and which will explore more fully the ramifications of a world where dinosaurs have returned. Jurassic World 3 is currently aiming to arrive on 11 June 2021.
