Looks like somebody didn’t say the magic word. Colin Trevorrow and the team making Jurassic Park 4 are clearly having some Dennis Nedry-type problems, as Universal has announced that the new film will be delayed.

Rumours of a possible hold first surfaced Tuesday night with tweets from crewmembers – since vanished from the social media site, but picked up by the eagle-eyed types at Ain’t It Cool News – about the film being delayed.

Now, clearly looking to keep ahead of any stories about trouble and strife on the film, the studio has released an official statement giving notice of the intent to delay the release until everything can be sorted: “Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth instalment in Universal’s beloved franchise. We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history.”

According to Variety, there are a number of reasons for the hold, including giving time for Trevorrow and his regular co-writer Derrick Connelly to work on the script (originally penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver) and the fact that casting was taking longer than thought, with names including Bryce Dallas Howard and David Oyelowo in the mix.

Frankly, pushing the release date (which was rammed into the ground on a pole before Trevorrow was ever aboard) seems like a very sensible idea, since now everyone has the time to work on the movie properly without rushing to meet that planned June 2014 date. And wouldn't we all rather have a good movie a little later than a rushed movie asap? Hold on to your butts a bit longer.
