Welcome back to the jungle! It's been a long five years since the release of Jake Kasdan's Jumanji: The Next Level back in 2019, which proved itself a more than worthy successor to the surprise critical and commercial hit that was Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. But now, at long last, we know exactly when we can expect to see Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and co getting back in the game. Per THR's reporting, Sony Pictures has set an 11 December, 2026 release date for their family adventure franchise's trilogy closing third instalment.

The core cast of the first two movies are all expected to return in the upcoming threequel, which will once again see Kasdan occupying the director's chair. And whilst we don't know who'll be joining them this time around (Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, and Danny Glover's The Next Level appearances will take some beating), we do have a pretty solid idea where things are heading third time around, despite the lack of official synopsis just yet. As fans of the franchise will recall, the last movie ended with Jumanji players Spencer (Alex Wolff), Fridge (Ser'Darius Blain), Bethany (Madison Iseman), and Martha (Morgan Turner) leaving a cafe and walking headfirst into a stampede of ostriches from inside the game, suggesting that after two movies spent with our heroes heading into the world of Jumanji, next time around we'll be getting to see Jumanji make its way into the real world.

At this stage, we know precious little else about Jumanji 3, but star Johnson did hint during an interview with Virgin Radio back in 2022 that this may well be the third and final film in the franchise. "Jake has a very, very special cool idea for Jumanji 3 that could be the finale," said Johnson. "But in the spirit of that, it's really special." Luckily, we're big fans of very special cool ideas here at Empire HQ, so we'll catch you at the multiplex just in time for Christmas 2026. Jumanji 3-D: Game Over, anyone? (One for the Spy Kids Stans out there!)
