UPDATE: Deadline brings word, via the offcial press release, that Moore is now officially signed for both Mockingjay films to play Coin.

The first two Hunger Games films haven't had any trouble attracting solid actors to the supporting roles behind leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. Now Julianne Moore is in talks to join the final two films, both taken from Suzanne Collins third book, **Mockingjay{ =nofollow}.

If you’re only watching the films, or haven’t read the third book yet, beware that spoilers lurk from this point forward.

If she does end up making a deal, Moore would be playing President Alma Coin, the leader of District 13. Long thought to be an abandoned wasteland effectively bombed back into the Stone Age by a Capitol attack, District 13 is revealed in the third book to be the centre of a rebellion against the evil President Snow, with its population living in bunkers from which Coin can run her ambitious campaign to take over Panem. But while they initially seem to be on the same side, Katniss (Lawrence) soon realises they don’t always see eye to eye…

Moore would seem like an excellent choice for the role; she can be very charming while also projecting the intelligence and tenacity of a rebel leader. And she can be scary too, which is good for a role that demands high levels of authority and power as her campaign to unseat Snow gets underway.

Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence has signed on to direct both of the movies, working from a script by Danny Strong. The two parts of **Mockingjay **are planned for release on November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015.
