When last we checked in on the fast-moving progress of the Carrie remake, we got a taste for the tone from director Kimberly Peirce and star Chloe Moretz and word that Julianne Moore had been offered the role of Carrie’s domineering, religious mother. Now Moore has officially signed on.
She’ll play Margaret White, a woman who has sheltered her young daughter and spends her days going door-to-door preaching her (very strict) take on the gospel. When Carrie gets her first period, Margaret locks her in a cupboard and orders her to pray, begging forgiveness for her sins.
She’s not the only new cast member, as Gabriella Wilde has landed the role of Sue Snell in the film, which was played in the original by Amy Irving. Sue is a girl who initially taunts Carrie, but comes to realise that what she’s doing is mean and unfair. But neither she nor any of Carrie’s classmates are quite ready for the reaction…
Peirce is gearing up to shoot in June. Moore has What Maisie Knew and The English Teacher headed through post-production and has been filming fantasy drama The Seventh Son. Wilde was last seen in The Three Musketeers and is about to kick off work on Squatter****s.
