Given the recent flood of sexual abuse allegations and the continued struggle for equality between the sexes, now really feels like the right time for a film about Gloria Steinem, a galvanizing figure in the feminist movement. Julianne Moore has signed on to play her in My Life On The Road.
Julie Taymor is in the director's chair, with playwright Sarah Ruhl writing the script, itself based on Steinem's eponymous memoir. It'll chart her travel-filled younger days, and her growth from a reluctant spokesperson of a movement, into a symbol for equality, with a focus on the encounters along the road that helped shaped her.
June Pictures is backing the film, and Taymor should be shooting soon. Moore has Suburbicon due here on 24 November and will also be seen in Todd Haynes' Wonderstruck, which premiered at the London Film Festival last month, but has yet to confirm a UK release date.
