You'd imagine that getting acting work becomes easier with an Oscar nomination under your belt, and for Lucas Hedges, he had a leg up on his next film as the director is his father, Dan In Real Life's Peter. He'll co-star with Julia Roberts in Ben Is Back.
The new drama will see Hedges the younger playing the charming-but-troubled Ben Burns. Returning home unexpectedly to his family one Christmas Eve, he soon starts to cause problems. And while his mother Holly (Roberts) is wary but happy to have her son back in the fold, she discovers that he's very much still in harm's way. Thus follows a 24-hour nightmare for the family that could change their lives forever – and we don't mean in terms of Christmas lights failing or an overdone turkey.
Production companies 30WEST and Black Bear are funding the film, which will be for sale at next month. Hedges the elder will start the cameras rolling in December.
Roberts will be back on our screens in Wonder, due 1 December, while Lucas Hedges has Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri out 12 January, followed by Lady Bird on 16 February.
