It's "Guillermo Del Toro Presents..." time again. Collider have a trailer up for Julia's Eyes, directed by Guillem Morales and starring Belen Rueda. Del Toro is a producer on the film, as he was with The Orphanage and the upcoming Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. He certainly has an eye for a good horror film, ho ho.
Rueda, who was also in The Orphanage for Juan Antonio Bayona, has a dual role here as both Julia and her twin sister Sara, whose death Julia is investigating. Just like Van Damme in Maximum Risk. Or maybe not. Sara was blind and Julia is suffering from the same degenerative eye disease, making her suspicions that Sara's death was not a suicide, but caused by something haunting her in the dark, somewhat alarming.
The trailer gives a lot away (it's more of a showreel than a normal promo-clip: the "in post-production" at the end suggests it might be intended for potential distributors rather than Joe Public) but it does a good job of teasing what look like some decent scares. At the very least, Julia's Eyes should be better than the remake of The Eye.** **It'll premiere at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
