Anything Daniel Craig can do, Jude Law can do, but... glowing? The first teaser for Paolo Sorrentino's follow-up to 2016's The Young Pope, The New Pope has all the usual irreverence and stylised imagery, but none of the kangaroos. Check it out...
What it does have is John Malkovich as Giovanni Paolo III, the titular new Pope. And from the looks of this, (whether or not any of this ends up in the actual series) things are going to be quite different under his Papal administration. Back to basics?
Sorrentino has been keeping the details quiet on this one, and hasn't revealed how it'll tie in to The Young Pope. Are we meant to assume from this that Law's Lenny Belardo has died, hence the new Pontiff? Or is it more to outline the vast differences between his time in the Vatican and the new arrival?
We'll no doubt find out more once Sorrentino premieres the new series at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday, and it's due to hit HBO and Sky later this year.
