You might think that Steven Spielberg had found all the cast he needs for his new film loosely based on his own younger days. You'd be wrong! He's now adding Judd Hirsch, Jeannie Berlin, Robin Bartlett and Jonathan Hadary to what has the working title of The Fabelmans.
The film's ensemble is led by Michelle Williams and Paul Dano, who are playing characters inspired by Spielberg's parents, while Gabriel LaBelle is the central figure, based on the director, a young man growing up in Arizona. Seth Rogen is his favourite uncle, Julia Butters is his sister and Sam Rechner, Oakes Fegley, Chloe East and Isabelle Kusman will be classmates. These four new recruits, meanwhile, will be the main character's older relatives.
Spielberg is making a rare foray into screenwriting for this personal film, working alongside Tony Kushner, with shooting going on now, and a 2022 release date planned.
