While Judd Apatow is still hard at work (at least he claims he is, though he is spending an awful lot of time on The Twitters lately) on the script for his next film, he’s also finding space in his cramped schedule to produce other movies. And his latest acquisition? Do Gooders, written by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck.
A nudge at celebrity types and their charity causes, the writers are negotiating to sell the rights to the script to Universal, with Apatow planning to help shepherd the eventual film through the various production stages (though he won’t direct, since he’s going to be a bit busy himself this summer).
The Hollywood Reporter has it that the actual details of the new comedy are still being kept secret, though it will focus on actors trying to help those in need. Because, as we can all agree, doing good is funny and worth mocking. Hopefully it won’t go quite that cruel (unless the characters deserve it), especially since Huyck and Gregory are veterans of TV 'toon King of the Hill, which managed to gently lampoon various subjects without ever reaching for the harsher comedy sticks. And they may end up sharing the director’s chair, since they’ve just shot A Good Old Fashioned Orgy with funny folk such as Will Forte, Jason Sudeikis and Lake Bell.
