Having taken some time to figure out what he wanted to do to follow This Is 40, Judd Apatow appears to have locked in on his next directorial project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apatow will tackle Train Wreck, written by and starring comedian Amy Schumer{ =nofollow}.

While Apatow’s films are always fairly loose affairs beyond the basic outline that makes the screen, this could conceivably mark the first time he directs something he didn’t actually write or co-write himself.

Given his eye for spotting and nurturing talent, it’s perhaps not shocking that he’s working with Schumer, whose career got a boost this year when she scored her own show on US channel Comedy Central. The film, as you might expect from that title, will see her as a woman trying to rebuild her ruined life.

Apatow is currently searching for people to play her boyfriend, a best friend/co-worker and one of her parents. He’s taking meetings now, which makes us think he’ll be gearing up to shoot next year. Our only concern is Train Wreck had better be great, lest the title be used in every negative review…
