Netflix just keeps scooping up the services of big-name filmmakers. Newly making the move - at least on the movie front – is Judd Apatow, who has agreed to make his next film for the streaming the service.
The as-yet untitled comedy, which Apatow wrote with South Park veteran Pam Brady, follows a group of actors living in a pandemic bubble at a hotel who are trying to finish off a film. It's certainly a timely topic given how many movies and TV series are grappling with shooting as Covid still has its grip on the world.
Deadline reports that while there is no cast attached yet, Netflix is moving quickly on this one, with plans to start meetings and auditions to fill an ensemble that promises to rank alongside the likes of Knives Out.
It's more surprising that Apatow would set up a film at Netflix after making everything else for Universal. Yet his prior relationship with the company (via producing TV comedy Love) and Netflix's resources, goes some way to explaining that.
