With successful TV series such as The OC, Gossip Girl and Chuck under his belt, writer/producer Josh Schwartz has been showing signs that he wants to break into the big screen as well. Now he’s locked in his directorial debut, agreeing to make the teen comedy Fun Size for Paramount.
The Hollywood Reporter’s story mentions that the film doesn’t quite have an official greenlight just yet, but that the studio is now looking to get it into cinemas by Halloween this year.
And that’s not because it’s a gory horror comedy: the script, written as a spec by Colbert Report staff member Max Werner, is set among sugar-happy kids on Halloween. Our heroine is a snarky teenage girl who finds herself having to drag her annoying little brother around the local houses trick-or-treating. But then he goes missing and she’s forced to find him before their mother finds out and she’s grounded until she 30.
While Schwartz had apparently had a few projects he was considering (and also took time out to write an early draft of the X-Men: First Class script), Fun Size made the biggest impact and he now aims to start shooting in a couple of months in St Louis.
