Think of it as the indie equivalent of two big action stars signing on to go head to head in a massive franchise explosion-fest, except in this case, it’s more of an emoto-fest: actor/writer/director Josh Radnor, who won fans at this year’s Sundance Film Festival with his debut movie HappyThankYouMorePlease, is teaming up with fellow Sundance buzz-magnet Elizabeth Olsen for Liberal Arts.
In a move that makes us suspect that Radnor wrote the script just so he could spend time snogging an attractive younger woman, it’ll see him playing a 35-year-old who longs to be back living his college life, but who has to face up to the mundane reality of adult responsibility.
The 22-year-old Olsen will play a 19-year-old student who falls for him thanks to a shared connection over music and literature. But her relative immaturity means the relationship doesn’t run smoothly.
Olsen notched up plenty of praise for her performance in Martha Marcy May Marlene at the festival, and is now busy shooting Red Lights with Sigourney Weaver and Robert De Niro. She’ll report to the Arts set in the spring, as Radnor is making the movie during his break from sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which just got renewed for two years. Meanwhile, we’re off to start a script called **Anne Hathaway Really Wants To Kiss A Film Magazine Journalist. **The title might need some tinkering, though…
