Cinema’s at it again: looking for old TV shows with a cult following that can be turned into movies. In this case, the target is US sitcom Gilligan’s Island, which is set to be retooled as a vehicle (hopefully not an ill-fated boat) for Josh Gad, who is set to star and co-write the script for Warner Bros{
Gilligan’s Island, for those scratching their noggins at the name, ran for three seasons across the pond from 1964. The basic concept was a group of people – including a scientist, a millionaire, a movie star, a girl-next-door type and the crew – headed out for what was supposed to be a three-hour pleasure cruise on the S.S. Minnow. But one massive storm later, they ended up shipwrecked on an uncharted desert island, looking for ways to escape or be rescued, plans that were usually foiled by ship’s mate Gilligan’s goofiness.
The Hollywood Reporter’s story doesn’t specify which role Gad would inherit, but we’d guess it would be Gilligan himself. He’ll work on the screenplay with Benji Sami and Dan Hernandez, who also worked alongside him on his own short-lived sitcom, 1600 Penn.
Gad, who can currently be heard voicing snowman Olaf in Frozen, will next be seen in Zach Braff's Wish I Was Here and comedy pic The Wedding Ringer.
