Josh Brolin is turning crooked for Ridley Scott’s American Gangster.

He’ll play corrupt NYPD narcotics investigator Detective Trupo, who exploits the case built by his colleague, Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) against drug kingpin Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington).

Gangster is based on Lucas’ life, following his scheme to smuggle drugs into the US in Vietnam soldiers’ coffins, his capture by Roberts and their work exposing crooked coppers and drug criminals.

Scott, Crowe and Washington are hard at work right now, with Brolin having joined straight from working on the Coens’ No Country For Old Men and Robert Rodriguez’ Planet Terror.
