Joseph Kosinski Ready For Oblivion

It would seem that** Tron Legacy** director Joseph Kosinski is aiming to be one of those directors (see: James Cameron and Guillermo del Toro) who just can’t help loading themselves up with more projects in development than any sane human being would have time to make, given the usual commitment for big films. Or maybe he just likes keeping his options open. But he’s now pitching a new film, science fiction romance **Oblivion.

The pitch is actually not a new story, at least not for Kosinski. According to Deadline, he came up with the idea three years ago, but has been so busy on his little computer art movie for Disney that his management team got the story set up as a graphic novel with Radical Publishing first.

Arvid Nelson ended up writing the comic, which takes place in a ravaged future where most of the world’s people live in the sky as the Earth is largely uninhabitable. This is because governments gave over the care of the place to BP. Topical, laygennlmen! No… the reason isn’t given (we bet it’s pollution, war or both) and now the land is the province of dangerous aliens called Scavengers. A trooper trapped on the planet rescues a beautiful woman and together they go on an adventure that changes his life.

The book will be published later this year and Kosinski is now showing the idea to studios, with Disney (natch) getting first look. If someone picks it up, it’ll go into consideration for him to direct, depending on when the script is knocked into shape and his own busy schedule. He’s also got the likes of **Archangels, **The Black Hole **remake and a possible Tron sequel sitting waiting for his attention, and who knows whether he’ll be attracted to another shiny trinket in future?
