Given Oliver Stone's yen for stories about whistleblowers and people struggling to find the truth, it's only natural that he would be drawn to the Edward Snowden story. Now, after a couple of delays, Snowden, his drama about the man, is ready to arrive. Check out the first trailer below.

The movie chronicles the experiences of Snowden (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the military man-turned-whistleblowing National Security Agency contractor who began leaking classified documents to former Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald (Zachary Quinto) in June 2013. Snowden, currently stuck in Russia after the US cancelled his passport, has become a polarising figure between those – such as the director himself – who consider him a patriotic hero, and those who feel he’s a traitor.

With Shailene Woodley, Nicolas Cage, Rhys Ifans and Tom Wilkinson also in the cast, Snowden will hit US cinemas on September 16, but has no confirmed UK release as of yet.
