A little over a year ago, we learned that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum were attached to an untitled movie musical that would let them show off their combined warbling and shoe-shuffling talents. We've heard very little about the film since then, but now it emerges that Gordon-Levitt wants to direct it.
Tatum and Gordon-Levitt are still on board to star in the planned R-rated project, which has the working title of Wingmen. 21 Jump Street writer Michael Bacall came up with the idea alongside JGL and wrote the script. It'll follow two pilots who crash land in Las Vegas and features known music with a strong streak of rude humour. Variety has heard it described as Pitch Perfect meets The Book Of Mormon.
While Universal, which is backing this one, has held meetings with the directorial likes of Seth Gordon and James Bobin, Gordon-Levitt has now told those involved that he'd like a shot at making it.
We'll have to be patient for this one, though, as the leads have busy schedules; JGL is developing a number of projects, including a Fraggle Rock film and Tatum has to work on Triple Frontier and, assuming it ever actually gets going, Gambit.
