If you’ve been waiting for glimpse of the new Candyman, there’s exciting Candyman news for you – the first poster has arrived, with a trailer to follow on Thursday. This updated instalment is a sequel to the original 1992 Candyman, also simply titled Candyman, from producer and co-writer Jordan Peele, and directed by Top Boy director Nia DaCosta. Taking the lead in this one is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (one of the hottest actors around now, currently shooting Matrix 4 and having just played [REDACTED] in Watchmen), while Tony Todd is said to be returning as the titular Candyman. Oh god, did we just say Candyman five times?

Anyway, above is the poster which displays the iconic hook that the (whisper it) Candyman uses to dispatch his victims, slicked in honey with a single bee resting ominous atop it. Spooky stuff – and very much playing into the imagery of the Bernard Rose original. Before the full trailer drops on Thursday, here’s a tiny teaser offering a first look at some of our new characters.

For the most part the project has remained tightly under wraps – so it’ll be fascinating to see what Peele, DaCosta, and co-writer Win Rosenfeld have cooked up with this new take when the full trailer drops. Candyman is set to arrive in UK cinemas on 12 June 2020.
