Hollywood hasn't quite ever shaken the habit of turning movies – particularly horror titles – from other countries into new output. The latest to grind through the remake machine is Korea's Hide And Seek, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jacinda Barrett, Joe Pantoliano and Luke Cage's Mustafa Shakir are all aboard to star in the US take.
Avatar actor and occasional director Joel David Moore is handling this one for indie outfit CJ Entertainment. The story finds a man searching for his long-lost brother and stumbling on a secret world of squatters terrorising tenants. Moore also worked on the script, adapting the successful 2013 original from writer/director Huh Jung.
"The original was very successful because of its unique yet relevant approach to an elevated thriller, and Joel delivered us a story that builds upon the original in a fresh and terrifying way," CJ Entertainment's Francis Chung tells Deadline. "We are so excited to have an exceptional cast led by Jonathan, Jacinda, Joe and Mustafa, and can’t wait to entice both fans of the original and new audiences alike." The cameras are starting to roll this week in New York.
