Forget Barack Obama. Forget John McCain (although we love his Home Fries). And forget Hillary Clinton (though most people seem to be halfway there already) – Jonathan Pryce IS the new President Of The United States Of America.
Of course, there’s been no massive overhaul of the US Constitution to allow a foreign-born citizen to climb the seat of power – instead, the British actor will play The President in Stephen Sommers’ G.I. Joe, which started shooting last week.
According to those lovely folks at Latino Review, The President will apparently have a small and integral role in the action adventure, which pits the good guys of G.I. Joe against the evil Cobra.
Pryce is a fine actor, so this is an interesting choice. He’s quite good at playing panic and relative cowardice, so is it possible that his President will be weak-willed and lily-livered? Whatever happens, his casting ensures that G.I. Joe has possibly the most eclectic cast of any of 2009’s blockbusters thus far. Pryce joins Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Channing Tatum, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rachel Nichols and Marlon Wayans – and if that isn’t eclectic, we don’t know what is.
G.I. Joe is set for release next August.
