Having gone from the low budget likes of Cop Car to the high cost and higher expectations of the MCU (and Sony's Spider-verse), director Jon Watts pulled off a winner of a film with Spider-Man: Homecoming this year. And now he's ready to try and do it again, as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Watts is in talks for the sequel.
A follow-up to the hit (more than $472 million globally in the two or so weeks since it came out) was already on the cards, and given his apparently smooth working relationship with the studios, it was likely that Watts would be offered first refusal. Of course, the two parties still have to make a deal, but we'd expect that to lock in soon enough.
The only other detail known right now is that Tom Holland (no, the other one... look, just make the joke yourself at this point) will be back as Peter Parker/Spidey. And we're hoping for more Ned. As for a release date, the sequel is taking aim at a July 2019 berth.
Here's hoping Watts has caught up on his sleep so he's ready to throw himself back into the cine-maelstrom again.
