Currently enjoying some box office success with** Last Vegas**, director Jon Turteltaub can turn his attention to the various projects he has bubbling away in development. Today brings word that one of them – sumo comedy remake A Matter Of Size – has a new writer aboard in the shape of Tom Bezucha.
The writer and director of The Family Stone has been hired to crank out a new draft of the script, which will adapt the original film, which began life in Israel, into the tale of four presumably American, overweight friends who decide to quit the endless round of dieting and bingeing they’ve been subject to and start a sumo wrestling team instead. The move causes issues, but also helps them feel better about themselves.
It sounds like the sort of concept that Kevin James would leap on, but while several actors have apparently shown interest, no one is formally attached just yet. It’ll be Bezucha’s job to write something that draws in more possible stars.
Turteltaub, meanwhile, will also probably start fielding questions about a third National Treasure film, though with producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s recent move to Paramount, that might not be arriving as fast as Nicolas Cage's accountant might like.
