Jon Stewart Wants Steve Carell For His Next Film

Jon Stewart and Steve Carell

It's been a few years since Jon Stewart directed a film; his first (and to now, only) was true-life tale Rosewater. And despite leaving The Daily Show in 2015, he's mostly been enjoying the time off. Now, it looks like he's ready to get back behind the camera, and he's aiming for old mucker Steve Carell to star.

The new film is called Irresistible, an original political satire Stewart has dreamed up. Plot details are being kept under a gag order for now, and it's at a very early stage, with the director and his backers at Plan B Entertainment locking down such crucial elements as financing and distribution.

Though he has close ties with Carell thanks to their shared professional past, the comedian/actor's involvement may well depend on scheduling and locking in a deal. Carell is a busy man these days, Oscar nominated and in demand.

So while there is no word yet on when Irresistible will even start shooting let alone find a release slot, Carell will be back on our screens in a few movies, including Welcome To Marwen (out 1 January), Beautiful Boy (due 18 January) and Vice, arriving on 1 February, with a first trailer now in the world.
