If the big-screen future of Star Wars is as yet unannounced post-Episode IX, some new details have emerged about the live-action TV series being worked on by Jon Favreau. The show is destined for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, and now we know which corner of the galaxy far, far away it’ll focus on. Posting on his Instagram, Favreau revealed a brief synopsis, and a title sure to set long-time Star Wars fans into a Mustafarean meltdown: The Mandalorian.
“After the stories of Jango and Boba Felt, another warrior emerged in the Star Wars universe,” the post reads. “The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic....”
For those not as familiar with the Star Wars universe, the synopsis confirms that the series is set somewhere in the 30 year gap between the end of the original trilogy, and the start of the currently sequel trilogy. While we won’t be getting a story solely about fan-favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett, this series might sate the appetite of fans who have long been calling for a solo Fett movie in the A Star Wars Story vein.
It’s still unsure exactly when The Mandalorian will arrive, though the Disney streaming service is thought to be launching in late 2019. Meanwhile, Favreau will be hard at work on his live(ish)-action Lion King remake, starring the likes of Beyonce and Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, and tons more which hits the big screen in July 2019.
