Long before there was the Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson comedy pairing or the Jon Favreau/Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man collaborations, there was the Swingers-born Favreau/Vaughn team-up, which has continued on and off through the more recent likes of The Break-Up and Couples Retreat. They’re back working together again, with Favreau taking a role in Vaughn’s new comic book-spawned thriller **Term Life.
Yes, despite being busy pimping his new directorial effort Chef and developing several projects including a live-action/CG Jungle Book for Disney, Favreau has accepted an unspecified part in the film, which kicked off filming at the start of the month.
Term Life’s plot follows Nick Barrow (Vaughn), who plans heists and comes up with tricks for career criminals. Unfortunately for him, he’s managed to annoy just about everyone, especially when one of the most recent crimes he helped plan goes bad. With mob bosses, corrupt cops and hit men on his trail, Nick decides he wants to finally do something good and takes out a big life insurance policy out on himself, payable to his estranged daughter (Hailee Steinfeld). There’s just one small hitch: it takes 21 days to take effect, and he’ll be lucky to live 21 hours…
Another regular Vaughn (and Favreau) collaborator, Couples Retreat director Peter Billingsley, is calling the shots on this one, working from comic book co-creator A.J. Lieberman’s script. Shea Whigham, Bill Paxton, Jonathan Banks. Mike Epps, William Levy and Jordi Molla are also all aboard.
