Ridley Scott directing an original Cormac McCarthy script. Michael Fassbender confirmed to star. Is it any wonder that other big names are circling The Counsellor like excited pigeons getting ready to fall on a thrown sandwich? It is not. Angelina Jolie is the first actor to register interest, with Vulture reporting that she’s in talks with Scott to take a small role.
Since it’s still very early days on the discussions, there are no details on what part exactly Jolie might be interested in. But from the sounds of it, it won’t be a starring part.
Fassbender has the choice role in the movie, which finds a lawyer getting into some seriously deep, dangerous water when he thinks he can just dip a toe into the murky world of the drug business. As Scott himself told us, it’s a story of how you shouldn’t 'play with the devil, don't step across the line, don't think you can do it and get away with it. You can't'." Incidentally, if you think you can just dip a toe into Empire’s own depths with that quote? No dice – you should really check out the new issue, which features the full Scott interview.
Jolie is not the only high profile name interested, though the other adorns a studio. 20th Century Fox has actively approached Scott about distributing and possibly co-financing the film. It’s not really a surprise, given how often the studio has worked with the director, most recently on a little pic called Prometheus.
