You know how there isn't a bus for ages, and then two come along at once? Well, it's the same with films based on ancient Norse poems. After waiting six years for a movie about Beowulf (although to be honest we've been trying to block out the memory of the 1999 Christophe Lambert film for a while now) two are coming our way. One is a live-action film starring Gerard Butler (in fact called Beowulf And Grendel; but the second is a motion-capture animation piece, directed by Robert Zemeckis, which Angelina Jolie has just joined. The story, as all students of Old English will know, tells of the warrior Beowulf, called in by a king to fight the monster Grendel
