The other day in LA, Empire was lucky enough to sit down with the very lovely, the absolutely gorgeous, the frankly stunning, Angelina Jolie. But in between staring at her like a poleaxed mule and trying to decide how and when to propose, our reporter managed to stammer out a few questions about her role in the Robert De Niro directed espionage film, The Good Shepherd, opposite Matt Damon. "It's a very interesting script," said Jolie. "It's an Eric Roth script, and it's a very interesting character. I play Matt's wife, and my character is a woman who has an alcohol problem, and has a difficulty with marriage and secrets, so it's a good, heavy thing to get in to." Damon stars as James Wilson, one of the founding members of the CIA, in a story that spans the first 40 years of the Agency's history. Roth's script has been in development for 12 years, but looks set to make it to the screen this time. Co-incidentally, it's also 12 years since De Niro last directed, with this marking his first (credited) outing since making A Bronx Tale in 1993 (he did some uncredited work on The Score). "De Niro still makes me nervous," laughs Jolie. "He's actually really lovely. He was surprisingly shy, and very sweet."
