Now here's something to put a smile on your face. With the promotional train for Todd Phillips' upcoming Joker: Folie À Deux building up a head of steam, today fans have been given a first look at the poster for the hotly anticipated DC sequel, with stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga quite literally taking the spotlight. Check it out below:
Isn't it beautiful? Light breaking through prison windows. Phoenix and Gaga in their finest evening wear, he with a cigarette in hand and she with a smeared red smile darkly daubed over her mouth. It's all incredibly dramatic, and certainly not not giving Golden Age Hollywood musical vibes, contrary to the contrasting reports out there about just how much music will be in the film. And then there's that tagline: 'The world is a stage'. What could it mean for our man Arthur Fleck? Just how far down the helter skelter of his sanity will we find Joker this time around? And just how much of what we will see will be as it seems when 4 October arrives? And what role will Gaga come to play in the Clown Prince of Crime's presumable coronation?
Well, we don't know just yet, honestly. But along with this new poster, we did also get word of the release date for the film's first trailer: 9 April. So that'll surely give us a few answers — and a bunch more questions to work with. It also gives us just about enough time to continue working on our theories about how Joker: Folie À Deux could conceivably tie in to Matt Reeves' The Batman universe. It's all part of the plan!
Joker: Folie À Deux releases in cinemas worldwide on 4 October.
