In its effort to bring its classic monster range kicking, screaming and roaring into the 21st century, Universal certainly hasn't been shy about looking to land big stars. It has Tom Cruise attached to lead The Mummy and now Johnny Depp will star in The Invisible Man.

Originally adapted from the H.G. Wells novel in 1933, The Invisible Man tells the story of a scientist who discovers a formula that can cloak him from the world. Unfortunately, as he starts to discover, the side-effect is he becomes insane. Sounds like it's something Depp could get his gnashers into.

Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are still spearheading the overall effort on this one, acting as producers with Kurtzman also directing The Mummy. They haven't announced who will be writing or calling the shots on the new Invisible Man, but Depp's name on the project means it will attract some big megaphone wielders.

The Mummy is scheduled to arrive on June 9, 2017, but we'll have to wait and see when The Invisible Man creeps on to screens.
