Bobby Farrelly on the genius of Johnny Knoxville

You'll probably be most familiar with him for such antics as climbing over a pool of crocodiles in his underwear or electrocuting his own genitals, but Johnny Knoxville is far more than a self-mutilating nutter. According to The Farrelly Brothers, who will showcase the Jackass star in their upcoming film The Ringer, the man's a legend waiting to be discovered. "We like Johnny a lot," Bobby Farrelly told Empire Online. "He's known for doing all the Jackass stuff but we think he's a real talent. He just seemed a perfect fit for The Ringer - that's a wild comedy." True to the Farrellys' PC-flouting form, The Ringer will see Knoxville posing as a physically handicapped man as he tries to rig the Special Olympics. "he gets in there and he realises that he can't fix it because these guys are good athletes," says Bobby Farrelly, "and they know he's a fraud. He tries to act like he's 'special' and the guys all turn around and confront him. It's a very good, sweet story. "When we said 'yeah, it's about the Special Olympics,' [the studio] was like, 'What?' But when we sent them the script they really liked it. You get to laugh at them but it's all very good-natured. We're very high on Johnny Knoxville, we think people are gonna see him in a different light after this." Also in the pipeline is the Farrellys' mooted remake of The Three Stooges and one stooge is already in line to take on the project. "We've already written the script. It's not going to be a biography or anything - it's three new guys. We're trying to get Benicio Del Toro to play Mo and if we get him then we'll go from there. If you look at him he's sorta got a 'Mo' look to him. He's very firm and strong like Mo was. He's a great starting point."
