Video game Splinter Cell has been one of those properties that has been mired in development hell for years on the film front, with the likes of Peter Berg and Tom Hardy attached at one point or another. Netflix has decided to release it from limbo, commissioning main John Wick scriptwriter Derek Kolstad to create an anime series.
The first game was released in 2002 to huge acclaim and massive sales, spawning several sequels and spin-off books. The game follows former US Navy SEAL Sam Fisher after he is recruited by the NSA to work for the mysterious Third Echelon division within the agency. The format finds Fisher engaging in black ops missions, employing stealth and military tactics.
Kolstad has a two-season, 16-episode order for the series, which would be co-produced by game creators Ubisoft. Perhaps, at last, Splinter Cell will finally hit screens.
