His big chance to work with Oliver Stone – Savages – may not have resulted in the best film of either man’s career, but that isn’t keeping John Travolta from investigating crime stories. The Wrap reports he’s set to star in The Forger for Philip Martin.

With a script by Richard D’Ovidio (who wrote recent Halle Berry sleeper hit **The Call, **due here on July 5), **The Forger **focuses on Ray Cutter (Travolta) a former child art prodigy whose apparent talent was not enough to stop him falling into a life of petty theft.

After being caught and thrown in the slammer, he decides to play it straight and spend time with his sick son. Of course, things are never that easy, and soon the crime syndicate who arranged for his early release are pressuring him to work, you guessed it, one last job…

Cue a heist movie with a reluctant central figure and some high-stakes crime action.

Martin will be starting the cameras rolling later this year. Travolta most recently worked on Mark Steven Johnson’s Killing Season alongside Robert De Niro and Milo Ventimiglia. That one is still awaiting a release date.
