John Milius, a man with just a little experience of war movies (he wrote Apocalypse Now for Francis Ford Coppola), has signed up to script Korean War epic The Chosen Few for 2929 Entertainment.
It’s based on US Defence Department analyst Julie Precious’ story about the Chosin Reservoir Battle, which went until the title Task Force Faith.
The battle saw 2,500 under-supplied and under-trained US soldiers joining forces with 15,000 Marines to fight back against a surprise attack by more than 100,000 Chinese troops. Following days of combat in freezing temperatures, the soldiers helped the Marines battle their way out.
"For many years, these U.S. Army troops were thought to have 'cut and run' and were shunned for cowardice, while the Marine troops received a Presidential Unit Citation, but over the years, a group of survivors and historians fought to shed a light on what really happened during this battle," 2929’s Todd Wagner told Variety.
There’s no director attached yet, but who knows – Milius might take on the job himself.
