John Malkovich Joins Red

Another hour, another John Malkovich story: the adaptation of DC Comics' miniseries Red has a sprawling, eclectic cast, which until last month included John C Reilly. But now Reilly is out and Malkovich is stepping into his shoes.

He'll play a retired CIA agent and mate of Bruce Willis' former black ops agent who discovers that a group of younger, better-equipped assassins are out to off them both.

Luckily for Malkovich, his character is a paranoid semi-loon who is prepared for just this sort of deadly eventuality. Sounds like the ideal mesh of man and role.

And as for that eclectic cast? Try Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, Julian McMahon, Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox and Ernest Borgnine.

**The Time Traveller's Wife **director Robert Schwentke is the man charged with making sure they all show up to the set and to get the movie shooting this week in Toronto.
