Ride Along, the comic take on gritty cop thrillers like Training D****ay, has been grinding slowly through development for years now. But it’s finally picking up the pace since Universal hopped into the driving seat. The latest addition to the cast has just been announced, as John Leguizamo is set to sign on.
The film finds a schoolteacher (Kevin Hart) getting set to marry the woman of his dreams. There’s just one small issue: his prospective brother-in-law (Ice Cube), a tough-as-nails cop, isn’t exactly thrilled with her choice.
So he organizes what he claims will be a bonding experience, getting Hart’s character to ride along with him on a nightmarish tour of duty in LA, hoping that it’ll scare him off.
Assuming he makes a deal, Leguizamo will be slipping into creep mode to play a corrupt cop.
Tim Story is in the director’s chair, and Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay are at work on a new draft of the script.
Leguizamo is as busy as ever. He was most recently heard in Ice Age 4: Continental Drift and will crop up in both Kick-Ass 2 and The Counselo****r.
