John Leguizamo has a habit of cropping up on TV shows. He recently completed a stint on ER, and now he’s jumped aboard a heist-gone-wrong drama for US cable channel Spike.
The Kill Pit was created by James DeMonaco, who wrote The Negotiator, and focuses on a real-time story of a group of Iraq War veterans-turned-bank robbers. When their job goes badly wrong, the lives of everyone from their hostages to the crisis negotiators is dragged into the chaos. "It blends the best of Dog Day Afternoon and Heat," Spike TV’s Pancho Mansfield told Variety. “As far as the real-time storytelling, it will be like 24 in terms of energy level, but we're not going to have a ticking clock.”
In addition to slapping down the money for eight episodes of Kill Pit, the network is also buying a pilot for Statute Of Limitations from Denis Leary’s Apostle Films company. That cop series will follow an elite team of agents who track criminals on the verge of beating the titular limitations on their wrongdoing- and getting away with it.
