If The Da Vinci Code proved one thing, it’s that there’s an appetite for code-based mystery thrillers.
Which goes some way to explaining why Alex de la Iglesia’s take on Oxford Murders has the go-ahead, with John Hurt all signed up as the lead.
Based on Argentinean writer Guillermo Martinez’ award-winning book, Murders finds a killer stalking the dreaming spires of the city when an Argentine graduate student discovers his landlady slaughtered. But she’s no ordinary rent collector – in her prime, she was part of the team who cracked the Enigma Code during World War Two. Soon after her body is found, a famous Oxford logician – Hurt – is sent an anonymous note claiming that this is just the first in a series of killings. He and the student must team up to solve the pattern before more people are offed.
The film doesn’t have a start date yet, but when it kicks off, it’ll be shooting in Oxford and London. Sadly, Inspector Morse isn't around to help with the investigation.
