You wouldn’t guess it from looking at the outside space John Hurt is sitting in above, but the shoot for his latest film, That Good Night was a temperamental one, with the Portuguese weather “rather unkind”. But the ominous weather seems to be a perfect fit for the film’s themes of impending death and the meaning of life.
The Algarve-set film sees Hurt play Ralph, a dying screenwriter desperate to make amends with long-lost son Michael (Agent Carter’s Max Brown) whilst also trying not to be a burden to wife Anna (The Bridge’s Sofia Helin). Ralph decides to take fate into his own hands, hiring Charles Dance’s mysterious ‘Visitor’ to help him drift painlessly into, yes, ‘that good night’.
Based on a play, That Good Night looks sure to give theatrical stalwarts Hurt and Dance some heavy material to deal with. There’s no word on a release date just yet.
