He's been winning praise for his performance in 10 Cloverfield Lane, which is no surprise, since John Goodman is one of the world's most reliable actors, delivering great work year after year. So films are lucky to snag his services and he's just joined Mark Wahlberg in the cast of Peter Berg's Patriots Day.
The film, which also recently added J.K. Simmons to its main cast, blends reality and cinematic invention to chronicle the events surrounding the bombing that happened at the finish line of the Boston race on April 15, 2013. Investigators eventually narrowed down suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and a huge manhunt followed, with Tamerlan killed in a firefight with officers and Dzhokhar found guilty of all his charges and sentenced to death.
Wahlberg is playing a composite of various Boston Police Department officers who were central to the case, while Goodman will be Ed Davis, who at the time was the Boston Police Commissioner that co-ordinated with the FBI, the Watertown Police, Massachusetts State Police and local emergency services to identify, track and apprehend the suspects. “Commissioner Davis is an American hero, and John Goodman brings the extraordinary combination of humility, gravitas and empathy to portray him,” Berg tells Variety.
