Joining an ever-growing list of actors making the jump from a primarily film-based career to TV, John Cusack has signed on for his first series regular role. He'll be part of the cast for the Amazon take on Channel 4's Utopia.
Originally created by Dennis Kelly, the 2013 original series set things in motion with the discovery of a manuscript for a legendary graphic novel known as The Utopia Experiments, long shrouded in mystery. When a small group of previously unconnected people unite in their shared interest, things take a much darker turn.
It turns out that they are by no means the only ones interested in the manuscript. Targeted swiftly and relentlessly by a murderous organisation known as The Network, the terrified group are left with only one option if they want to survive: run.
The US adaptation has had a rough old go of it so far, with much excitement when David Fincher landed a deal to make it and a few other projects with HBO. It then hit problems with budget costs and was abandoned, before Amazon swooped in to snatch it up, maintaining Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn as writer and developer of the new show.
Cusack will be Dr. Kevin Christie. Charismatic and media-savvy, he has a brilliant biotech mind and a philanthropic outlook. Christie altruistically wants to change the world through science. He joins a cast that already includes Sasha Lane, Rainn Wilson, Ashleigh LaThrop, Desmin Borges, Farrah Mackenzie and Christopher Denham.
